Legends of France Wine Luncheon

Wednesday, October 16, 2024 | 12:30 PM

Le Gabriel (***Michelin) - La Réserve Hotel

42 Av. Gabriel, 75008 Paris

This Michelin Three Star restaurant was one of the highlights of our last trip and we are honored to return and enjoy the stunning cuisine of Jérôme Banctel, one of France’s most talented Chefs. This exquisite dinner will feature legendary domaines from Champagne, Burgundy, and the Rhône, showcasing the very best of French wine.

We’ll kick off the evening with a flight of Champagne, starting with Guillaume Selosse Largillier, a Blanc de Noirs from the Aube, a Monopole shared with Jérôme Coessens. The Kimmeridgian soil imparts an intense minerality to this wine. Following that, we’ll savor the 2012 Clos des Goisses, produced from one of Champagne’s oldest walled vineyards and steepest slopes, renowned as one of Champagne’s finest terroirs and one of the world’s top wines. Finally, we’ll conclude with Krug Clos du Mesnil, often placed at the pinnacle of the finest Champagne by connoisseurs, indulging in the particularly heralded 2008 vintage.

The focus then turns to 2020 White Burgundy from the great Domaine Leflaive. The hallmark of this vintage is the brilliantly fresh acidity balanced by ripe fruit, making these wines wonderfully approachable and expressive of their terroir. We will compare the 2020 Clavoillon, Les Folatières, and Chevalier-Montrachet.

Our Red Burgundy flight commences with Domaine Rousseau’s Clos de la Roche, a sleeper among Rousseau’s offerings, and one of the benchmark wines of the vineyard. Next, Henri-Frederic Roch is part owner of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and, in 1988, started his own project, Prieuré-Roch. The Domaine’s Chambertin Clos de Bèze follows, revered as a rare cult classic that few have had the privilege to experience. We end the flight with DRC’s Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Duvault Blochet. This special cuvee is a blend of all of DRC Grand Crus, except Romanée-Conti itself, showcasing a stunningly beautiful wine from one of the world’s greatest domaines.

We conclude with three of the greatest names from the Rhône Valley. René Rostaing’s La Landonne represents one of Northern Rhône's finest terroirs. Jean-Louis Chave, who needs no introduction, presents complex and balanced wines from among the world’s greatest domaines. Finally, we feature one of the most powerful and opulent wines of France, the incredible Réserve des Célestins by Domaine Henri Bonneau. This legendary Châteauneuf-du-Pape offers an abundance of “Garrigue” aromas of herbes de Provence and ripe fruit all infused with the warmth of the sun and tempered by the cool breezes of the mistral.

The incredible lineup includes:

Krug, Clos du Mesnil Blanc de Blancs Brut 2008

Domaine Roulot Burgundy Dinner

Hosted by Jean-Marc Roulot

Le Clarence (**Michelin)

31 Av. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, 75008 Paris

The Michelin two-starred Le Clarence is one of our favorite spots in Paris. Located just off the Champs-Élysées, this lavish 1884 private mansion exudes unparalleled charm. Within these enchanting surroundings, Chef Christophe Pelé's elegant cuisine awaits, perfectly paired with the brilliant wines of Jean-Marc Roulot. We are extremely honored to welcome Jean-Marc as our host for this extraordinary evening!

There have been six generations of Roulots in Meursault going back to 1827. From the beginning, the family not only made wine but also produced brandy and eau de vie. Paul Roulot was born in 1863 and together with his son Paul-Guillaume, Jean Marc’s grandfather, expanded both the winery and the distillery. However, it was Paul-Guillaume’s son Guy who significantly shaped the Domaine as we know it today.

Guy Roulot, who married Genevieve, first cousin of Jean-François Coche, brought together two legendary winemaking families. Guy was a pioneer in Meursault, among the first to vinify and bottle his wines separately. His collection includes Premiers Crus and village Meursaults, all situated on the same slope at the same elevation. These village wines, known as Lieux-Dits, form an almost continuous line with the Premier Crus, showcasing their shared distinction and exceptional quality.

Tragically, Guy passed away in 1982 at just 52 years old. His son, the young 27-year-old Jean-Marc, reluctantly left behind a successful acting career to take over the Domaine. Initially, Jean-Marc hired Ted Lemon to manage day-to-day operations. After Lemon returned home to California and founded Littorai Estate, Roulot's cousin Frank Grux, winemaker at Olivier Leflaive, oversaw production until Jean-Marc assumed full control in 1988.

Under Jean-Marc's leadership, the Domaine has continued to flourish, expanding and further enhancing its reputation. The vineyards have been organic since 1999, with ongoing biodynamic trials. While all the wines are outstanding, one of the notable standouts is his Perrières, acquired in 1976 with vines dating back to the 1940s. Jean-Marc also added Poruzots and the monopole Clos des Bouchères to his list of top vineyards in 2011. Clos des Bouchères stands out as one of the estate's finest wines, alongside iconic wines from Les Vireuils, Meix Chavaux, Les Luchets, Les Tillets, Les Tessons, and Clos de Mon Plaisir.

Rare Cheval Blanc Vertical Back To 1970

Hosted by Pierre Lurton or Pierre-Olivier Clouet from Château Cheval Blanc

Friday, October 18, 2024 | 7:00 PM

Plénitude (***Michelin) – Cheval Blanc Hotel

8, Quai du Louvre, 75001 Paris

We are honored to be partnering with Chef Arnaud Donckele at Plénitude, located in the luxurious Cheval Blanc Hotel - the perfect place to stage this incredible vertical. Plénitude has the distinction of receiving Three Michelin Stars within just seven months of opening. Chef Donckele’s masterful cuisine paired with pristine bottles of Cheval Blanc is sure to be a gastronomic adventure not to be missed.

Cheval Blanc is one of the legendary estates of Bordeaux, with a lineage dating back to the 16th century and a consistent dedication to producing wines of quality. Surprisingly, Saint-Émilion’s most famous estate can easily be mistaken for a Pomerol. Situated near the Pomerol border, adjacent to L’Evangile and La Conseillante on gravel-rich terraces, Cheval Blanc mirrors its Pomerol neighbors by planting Cabernet Franc on well-drained clay and Merlot on gravel soils. The high proportion of Cabernet Franc in the blend is a unique feature, and many say that Cabernet Franc reaches its greatest expression in Cheval’s diverse soils of gravel, clay, sand, sandstone, and iron.

The wine is celebrated for its powerfully exotic bouquet, which delights even in its youth and evolves into a mind-boggling complexity with age. A favorite among Bordeaux aficionados, the estate’s signature perfume offers a sensory overload of exotic spices, cigar box, menthol, rich black fruit, and minerals. Cheval Blanc stands as one of Bordeaux's most profound and distinctive wines, rivaling that of Petrus, and its consistent excellence places it among Bordeaux's elite, alongside Petrus as well as the First Growths.

We will explore every vintage from 1970 to 2005, excluding 1991 which was not produced.

Domaine Armand Rousseau Chambertin Vertical Dinner

Saturday, October 19, 2024 | 7:00 PM

Marsan par Hélène Darroze (**Michelin)

4 Rue d'Assas 75006 Paris

We are thrilled to experience the culinary artistry of Chef Hélène Darroze at her innovative and elegant restaurant Marsan, boasting two Michelin stars. Chef Darroze, a fourth-generation chef with a total of six Michelin stars across her three renowned restaurants, blends French, Middle Eastern, and Asian culinary traditions to create a seasonal menu that captivates the palate. Her elegant dining space sets the stage for our extraordinary Rousseau vertical tasting.

When you mention the village Gevery Chambertin, one name invariably rises to the top: Domaine Armand Rousseau. In fact, there are few finer domaines in all the Cote d’Or. Charles Rousseau was born in 1923 and took over the Domaine after his father Armand’s passing in 1959. Armand, a wine broker at the time, sold his wines in bulk to local negociants. It wasn’t until he met Raymond Boudoin, editor of the Revue des Vins de France, that he began selling wines directly to clients. Boudoin connected Charles with France’s greatest restaurants at the time, including La Pyramide, Pic, Darroze, and Taillevent, through which he was able to establish a roster of elite private clientele. Boudoin also introduced him to Frank Schoonmaker, who started exporting his wines.

When Charles took over in 1959, the Domaine was only 6.5 hectares and included parcels in Chambertin and Clos Saint-Jacques. Charles expanded the estate by acquiring plots in Clos de Bèze (1961), Clos de la Roche (1965 and 1975), additional Chambertin (1968 and 1983), and Clos des Rouchottes (1978). His son, Eric, born in 1957, continued to increase the holdings and today Eric's daughter Cyrielle is at the helm, dedicated to preserving the legacy of this historic Domaine.

Rousseau’s wines are concentrated but not excessively so. They are pure in texture, always balanced, and elegant, each wine beautifully expressing it’s unique terroir. The flagship wine is the majestic Chambertin, truly one of the greatest wines of Burgundy. Any Rousseau wine is a revelation, but a vertical of Chambertin is a legendary experience you will remember for a lifetime.

We will feature Domaine Armand Rousseau Chambertin Grand Cru spanning vintages from 1990 to 2018 including: 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2010, 2009, 2006, 2005, 2002, 2000, 1999, 1998, 1996, 1995, 1993, and 1990
